Jose Martinez- Sycamore Den
The homie Jose, currently works at one of the most beloved bars in San Diego, and one with a special place in my heart, Sycamore Den. Working his way up from the bottom, I’m proud to have been able to see this guy come up and work his way up from door to bartender. HE currently has a cocktail on their menu called the “Oh Fuck I can’t remember what he called it”. Anyway stop in and take a shot of Benchy with ZayZay next time y’all are on the black. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this guy.
Jose Martinez. It’s tough to recall how I met Jose, but I know we’ve been friends for as long as I was throwing out the trash, getting chewed out by the superiors, (some things never change), and mistakingly grabbing dry vermouth for sweet over at the beloved Sycamore Den. Before I ever had a real footing in the bar world, Jose was a homie I knew I could confide in. I can only really trace our origins back to when he started working at the Den. I pulled what few strings I had and this young, bright, cogressman-to-be, was soon enough, working the door at Sycamore. Holy shit, now that I think about it… for my first bartending shift ever, Jose was working the door. It wasn’t long before we were a bartender/barback duo. Funny how he’s finally getting in the mix and slinging a few cocktails behind the bar himself. Im proud to call this man a dear friend. Jose, whatever you do, never stop hustling my brother. You got a bright future ahead of you, whatever you choose to do. Im just glad our paths crossed, and behind a bar none the less. Love you my man, now go change that keg that just blew!!
Tennis
Joses thing outside the bar is Tennis. He played tennis back in high school and still picks up the racket from time to time. Roger Federer modeled his serve after him.
